Gonzo Biker

This blog exists to bring you reviews, news, touring ideas, kit, and travel-related vlogs.

If you have ever read Hells Angels, the seminal work by the late, celebrated and oft-outrageous American author Hunter S. Thompson, then you will be familiar with the word ‘Gonzo’.

If you have ever read Hells Angels, the seminal work by the late, oft-outrageous American author Hunter S. Thompson, then you will be familiar with the word ‘Gonzo’.

It was Thompson who popularised the style of journalism that is written without claims of objectivity, often including the writer as part of the story using a first-person narrative and drawing its power from a combination of social critique and self-satire. It involves the reporting of personal experiences and emotions; the personality of a piece being as important as the event or actual subject of the piece with humour, exaggeration, sarcasm and, ahem, the occasional profanity. I don’t claim to be anything other than a passionate biker, so what you will get is a stream of consciousness writing technique mostly bereft of specs and stats, because invariably you will be aware of those from other reviews and vlogs, and to be honest I don’t want to get bogged down in those.

As a motorcycle journalist, I count myself fortunate to have a steady stream of bikes unloading on my drive to ride, enjoy, report on and return – often the hardest part! Currently I own four bikes: a Ducati XDiavel S, Harley Sportster 883, Indian Scout, and Honda Rebel 1100CMX. Bikes I have ridden this year include the Suzuki GSXS1000 GT, BMW R1250 SE, Royal Enfield Scram and Triumph Street Triple.

Living in Lincolnshire, I am blessed with plentiful quiet country roads and rolling hills upon which to place rubber to bitumen. Favourites like the Bluestone Heath Road in the Wolds, from where I head to some of my favourite biker haunts, such as Jenny’s Café in Hibaldstow; Rachel’s Café at Hagworthingham; and Seaview Café and Beach Shop in Mablethorpe, but there are plenty more.

So, for reviews, news, touring ideas, kit, and travel-related vlogs, keep an eye on the site, as hopefully, there’ll be something you’re bound to like!
