The whole point about riding a motorbike is to have fun, right!

Whether that be solo or out with friends, a club or organisation, joining a charity ride, or simply taking a brief run to catch up with mates over a coffee and bacon butty.

It’s always nice when the weather is kind to us, and only on special occasions would we venture out otherwise. Some of those occasions being not much fun at all. Like the other day. I very good friend from my local Harley Chapter had passed away recently whilst on holiday with his wife in Germany. With the funeral date in the diary, the day arrived… and what an absolute shocker. Storm whatsisname had been battering the country, and Lincolnshire had taken a right doing over with flooded roads, mud running off the fields, closures, hold-ups, and rain, consistently hammering down. By the time I had wheeled the Sporty out of the garage I was like a drowned rat.

Having splashed my way through deep troughs of water and been sprayed by passing motorists, I made it to the designated meeting point, and was truly humbled by the number of bikers that had turned out, not only from the Chapter. We followed the hearse through Lincoln to the Crematorium, and as the coffin was carried into the building, bikes roared into life, throttles twisted to the max. Even amidst such sadness, it was a glorious sound. Our friend would have been grinning from ear to ear, so I hope he heard us up there. God bless you, Kev.

Sooo, to lighten the mood, I have posted a rather fun route enjoyed by many bikers from across the county and further afield, possibly making a deliberate detour as they head towards the east coast just to get the adrenalin flowing. The stretch runs between the villages of Bardney and Bucknall, and is known as the Bardney (or Bucknall!) Bends… well, natch, I s’pose.

As always, ride safe.

  • Footnote: The Sporty’s been treated to some Mini Grenades since the opening shot was taken.
