I had waited several days for the weather to clear before I could enjoy a first ride on the recently-purchased Ducati Multistrada 1260 S. I was mulling over whether it was worth negotiating the still-damp roads, but I had lingered long enough. You know how it is.

After meeting up with a couple of friends for coffee, I headed off solo northbound from Lincoln on the A15 to the former RAF base at Hemswell Cliff and the popular Faun Café. I was running later than I had hoped, as I was aware they closed at 2.30pm and it was already 1.45 when I arrived.

Even so, I was surprised to be the only biker there. I asked if it was too late to order, but the waitress kindly took my request for double eggs, baked beans and chips, plus a mug of tea.

As staff busied themselves around me, clearing tables and mopping the floor, I was told they had been kept busy on service all morning. One of the members of staff disappeared out the front door, returning a few minutes later to mention how nice the Ducati was. I thanked him, both for his complimentary remarks and the food, and took my leave. Minutes later the roller shutter lowered on the door. The end of service.

Faun CafeColourful and characterful, it’s well worth checking out if you are ever in the area. You’ll find it listed on the UK Bikers site. Don’t go on Mondays or Saturdays, because it’s shut. Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 2.30pm  it serves a variety of freshly prepared food from a full English breakfast served through the day to home-cooked meals. Sundays it’s open from 9am until 3pm.

There is also a shop next door selling antiques, collectables, giftware, and Steampunk clothing if that’s your bag.

Find it at:
